Altered Swans Series

Black Series, Swans 22-24

The Black Series (Sets 8-11) are a journey into one’s reflectance and self-guidance. Throughout my art career I have been in a constant conversation with my paintings of a black nature. I believe that they sit in a limbo state between worlds where emotion does not exist, only thought and contemplation. It is a well and I aim to fill it with long thoughts, old thoughts, and things that are on my mind so that there is room for new growth and new days. I can pour my heart into this space, in this void where I am accepted. Here, I can speak freely through my gestures and carvings. There is nothing to judge, noone to care, only me and my road to self-acceptance.

Important Note –  There is a crack in the middle of the neck on the large piece, number 24/55, this is visible in the images. Max chose some bisque(the unglazed ceramic body) with what would normally be considered faults. These were worked in to series, as what began as a hair line crack opened up during the glaze firing – Mathew enjoyed learning some new tricks, as the story was woven into these sets, and individual pieces.
