This is the large swan from Set 4 of the Altered Swan series.

It is numbered as both 12/55 and as part of Set 4 of 15 sets in this series.

The Pollen Series (Sets 4-6) considers a moment here on Earth, yet in the stars at the same time. A pentimento of past memory overlaid in which a feeling is discovered that connects you to both places at once. As I walk into the forest I dig my toes into the ground. I close my eyes and feel surrounded, the universe runs through me, this connection to time and space. I feel the stars within the soil, galaxies between each blade of grass. Pollen from the flowers illuminates this journey and the bees gather wisdom from the books of nature. Within a second of release I open my eyes, just another moment in this experience.

Max developed these sets as a body of work expressing moods within the design pattern. While the set represents an concept, the individual pieces work well by themselves.

Important Note – There are cracks, down the front, bottom, and wing of the large piece, number 12/55, this is visible in the images. Max chose some bisque (the unglazed ceramic body) with what would normally be considered faults. These were worked in to series, as what began as a hair line crack opened up during the glaze firing – Mathew enjoyed learning some new tricks, as the story was woven into these sets, and individual pieces.
