Altered Swans Series

This is the small swan from Set 15 of the Altered Swan series.

It is numbered as both 43/55 and as part of Set 15 of 15 sets in this series.

Now this can be purchased as a single work.Maybe at a later date the set can be rejoined!

The Jade Series (Sets 12-15) are the essence of that simplicity of colour, and the right colour will bring out the brilliance in those who lend themselves. Constantly, I am reminded that the simplest things in life are the best. Even a busy ensemble has an uncomplicated core. Distilled down to its finest structure we find that the most basic of relationships form our laws of understanding. So it is here that I think to wear a smile as I know that it brings out the light in me, much like the pool of gold that beads down the emerald finish. A final touch in this series to remind me of the swans’ regal nature..

Max was really taken with the Jade and Gold effect. Each of these 4 sets, 12 pieces, are the sketch books. testing how the Gold reacted and the overall look was critical, some  did several firings to reach a balance point. The Jade green is a subtle tone and required the correct balance. As the kiln decided on the the final look with the Jade colouring, a similar effect was experienced opening the metallic firing – the gold is an on paint containing real gold, and fires at 780 degrees celcius, some 400 degrees below the Jade! We never really knew what something would look like as the gold paint goes on purple and changes in the firing. We could aim towards the look, but Max had an idea and kept trying to reach his ideal. There is a lot “said unsaid” in this body of work, Max was working through a lot of themes in this Swan Song.

Max developed these sets as a body of work expressing moods within the design pattern. While the set represents an concept, the individual pieces work well by themselves.

Altered Swans Set 15/15

This is a set of three swans, small, medium, and large.

Originally presented to be sold as a sets, the current economic climate has directed interest to the single pieces, numbers 46-55 and the Ugly Duckling series.

The sets are now available as single pieces.

Possibly this will create some interesting collecting stories in the years ahead!
