My neighbour Leona and her dog James Brown stand out on the road at Nireaha. The patterns on her dress act like a life force streaming in and out and on to infinity. Golden creatures, the unseen and microscopic, reveal themselves. Above her a blackbird and a rook are circling. There once was a rookery at Nireaha but they are gone, poisoned, as these birds though beautiful and highly intelligent are seen as pests.
